Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
1. Introduction
Turbovine Inc. (“Turbovine”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), a company based in Canada, operates Turbovine at turbovine.com (the “Service”), where people learn English by watching original drama series. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It should be read with our Terms & Conditions.
2. Information We Collect
If you just watch. You can watch free episodes without an account. We do not ask who you are, and we collect only the technical information described below.
Account information. If you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password, which we store only in hashed form. You may also choose to add a profile picture.
Subscription and payment information. If you buy a subscription, your payment is handled by our payment provider. We receive confirmation of the payment, your subscription status, and limited billing details (such as the amount, date, and country), but we never see or store your full card number.
Your answers. Your answers to an episode's questions are checked in your browser. For poll questions, we add your choice to an anonymous count so we can show everyone how others answered; the count does not record who you are.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we receive limited technical information — such as your browser and device type, the pages you visit, and your IP address — to deliver the Service, keep it secure, and fix problems. We also collect error and diagnostic reports (see Section 6).
When you contact us. If you email us or use our contact form, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply.
3. Information Kept in Your Browser
Some information stays on your own device, in your browser's local storage, and is not sent to us: which episodes you have watched, whether you have captions turned on, and which poll answers you have already given. Clearing your browsing data removes it.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- provide the Service, including your account and any subscription;
- show you the right coach and credit coaches who referred you (see Section 7);
- send you emails about your account, such as sign-in links, password resets, receipts, and renewal reminders;
- understand how the Service is used, and improve it;
- keep the Service secure, and prevent fraud and abuse;
- comply with our legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, we do not show third-party advertising, and we do not use your information to build advertising profiles. If we ever want to send you marketing emails, we will ask first, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
5. Service Providers
We use a small number of trusted providers to run the Service. They process information only on our behalf and only as needed for their function:
- Supabase — database and account sign-in.
- Vercel — website hosting.
- Cloudflare — website security and delivery of videos and images.
- Upstash — the anonymous poll counts.
- Resend — account emails.
- Sentry — error and crash reports.
- Stripe — payment processing, if you buy a subscription.
- PayPal — payments to coaches in our Coach Program.
6. Error Monitoring
We use Sentry to record technical information when the Service hits an error or crash — such as the type of error, the page it happened on, and basic browser and device details — so we can find and fix problems quickly. It is set up for error reporting only, not performance tracking, advertising, or session recording.
7. Cookies and Coach Links
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to make the Service work. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not track you across other websites.
If you arrive through a coach's link, we store a cookie in your browser naming that coach. It holds the coach's name and nothing about you. We use it to show you that coach's explanations and so the coach can be credited if you subscribe. If you create an account, we keep that connection with your account so it survives your browser being cleared. Clearing your cookies removes the cookie itself.
8. Age Requirement
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us at admin@turbovine.com and we will delete it.
9. International Data Transfers
We are based in Canada, and our service providers may store and process information in Canada, the United States, and other countries, whose privacy laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, we take steps to make sure your information receives an appropriate level of protection wherever it is processed.
10. Data Sharing
We share information only with the service providers listed above; when required by law or to respond to lawful requests; to protect the rights, safety, or property of Turbovine or others; and, if Turbovine is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with the successor, which will remain bound by this policy. When a coach is credited for your subscription, they see that a subscription came through their link, but not your email address or payment details.
11. Data Retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time. We delete or anonymise information when it is no longer needed, except where we must keep it — for example, payment records we are required to keep for tax and accounting purposes.
12. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to withdraw consent, or to object to or restrict certain processing — for example under Canada's PIPEDA, the EU and UK GDPR, or California's CCPA/CPRA. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the need to perform our contract with you, our legitimate interests in running and improving the Service, our legal obligations, and, where we ask for it, your consent. To make a request, contact us using the details below; we will respond as required by law. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
14. Coaches and the Coach Program
If you join our Coach Program, we process business information about you — such as your name, contact and login email, profile photo, social media handles, and the PayPal address you give us for payment. We use it to run the Program: to communicate with you, to publish your coach profile, to calculate what you have earned, and to pay you. We keep records of subscriptions credited to you and of payments made to you, for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Coach explanations on the Service include your voice and likeness. Some are produced by Turbovine using artificial-intelligence tools, based on recordings and images you provide. An explanation is published only after you approve it, and we keep a record of which version you approved and when. They are used as described in our Coach Agreement.
When you open a coach preview link, we log the visit and the pages viewed so we can see that the link is being used as intended. We do not store your IP address itself — only a one-way, scrambled form of it that cannot be turned back into the address.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and will post the new version on this page with a revised date. If a change is significant, we will also tell account holders by email or on the Service.
16. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your information, or to make a privacy request, please contact Turbovine Inc. at admin@turbovine.com.
